Ethics workshops often take a legalistic approach, for example, addressing such important matters boundaries and confidentiality. Yet ethical thought goes far beyond professional considerations, encompassing two millennia of reflection on how best to live. Hence ethics play a fundamental and pervasive role in psychotherapy in guiding the way we relate to our patients and shaping our views of optimal functioning. The current demand for evidence-based practice overshadows these fundamental ethical considerations. This workshop highlights the ethically grounded personal influence of the therapist, which plays a more significant role in treatment outcomes than technical knowledge and interventions.
