Adherence to a code of ethics is an essential obligation for all helping professions.  Learning to keep an eye towards ethics and ethical issues, managing and navigating ethical dilemmas, and determining course of action can be “tricky” to say the least for even the most competent supervisor and clinician.

This 3-hour ethics presentation will define ethics and explore widely used ethical decision-making models in clinical practice. The focus will be on identifying key ethical issues and dilemmas that commonly challenge supervisors and clinicians in clinical practice and to explore the most effective strategies in addressing these situations.

Case vignettes will be integrated throughout the presentation for meaningful dialogue about the ethical challenges in clinical practice.

At the conclusion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Identify a framework for understanding ethics;
  • Develop an understanding of ethical decision making and models for guiding this process as  supervisor and clinician;
  • Examine the key ethical issues and dilemmas that commonly challenge supervisors and clinicians in clinical practice; and
  • Identify the most effective strategies in addressing these key ethical dilemmas.
